Hello Clubbies,

Since I have been working on Rocky a lot, I felt I should spend a litle quality time with Junior, so I finally got around to changing his shifter boot insulator and shifter turret dust cover.

Well the previous owner had said that he had Junior serviced regularly at a local dealership and produced the receipts as proof. So naturally I was shocked to see Junior's shifter turret virtually "bone" dry  .

I would have expected that on a car with 95K miles and around 13 years old with receipts that show regular service intervals, some dealership mechanic would have checked the turret at least once. But apparently this was not the case  .

Well, Junior is happier now as he has new shifter boots and Redline tranny fluid in his turret. I would recommend you folks check your shifter turrets as the local service folks don't seem to.

Regards, Avery (the grease monkey) :icon_hat:

Morning Bill,

The turret dust cover is - M514-17-480A
The shifter boot insulator is - NA01-64-481B

If you're going to order soon, please order me one each also, Junior has new ones, but I bet Rocky needs them too.

If it's not too much trouble Rocky also needs these:

NA01-R1-864 - PROTECTOR RT $4.20

NA01-R1-874 - PROTECTOR LT $4.20

0000-02-9402 - BUSHING, ALUMINUM SHIFT $9.35

NA01-61-212A - HOSE, WATER $8.85

I'll be sure to pay you back and I'll go halves on shipping or we can trade for a Team Girlie Car Windshield Banner for shipping  .

By the way, I'll be ready to do the rear window temporary fix sometime this week. Let me know when you want to drop by.

Thanks, Avery :icon_hat: :avery:

I don't think any mazda dealer will check the shift turret even on the mainland. If it's not on the paper, it's not going to get done. If you ask them to do it/ or check it, they'll charge you extra. They're not going to take apart the shift console to check when it's not required and most customers won't know anyway. Also, the less they do, the less can go wrong, the less they're responsible for.

My turret looked like chocolate milk. Kinda like when you blow a head gasket. Maybe water got in there...

Yes, please put me in for the turret dust cover and boot insulator. Pretty sure Avery will also want you to order the parts he listed, but I must defer to him.

Let me know the cost, will bring cash to next Club meeting.

Avery: I've got the plastic window material and clamps loaded in my car. Let me know when you want me to swing by. Today on my way home from work, perhaps?
